Update

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Man, so much has been occurring since last post! First, my wife and I are embarking on a very interesting path, becoming co-founders of our innovative non-profit.  Second, I’m trying something else on side. Third, of course, I am not forgetting my family’s business. With each passing month I feel more and more confident in my abilities, skills, mind, and my circle of friends.

Goods things come to those who are confident and aggressive.

Safari 3 Beta for Windows

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Safari

Of course I did check it out. And I’m not impressed - it’s definitely Beta. For starters, the default start page takes forever to load. Another caveat I found: if you’ve got two monitors running, and if you try to move the Safari window to the 2nd window, maximize it, then try to minimize it, you can’t find the Safari window again!

Bottom line - it’s not ready for true action yet. It was released for Windows folks only so that developers wishing to write apps for iPhone could do that on Windows.

iPhone stuff

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

All this hype over iPhone! Pundits say it’s overblown, etc. I’ve got to tip the hat to Steve Jobs - what an impeccable timing it is for Apple to introduce a not so novel concept of keyless computer interface into the realm of mobile phones! The reality is that the touch screens have been with us for a long time - all these casinos and ATMs can attest to that. What Apple is doing differently is commodizing the touch screen itself even further. Think about it, if a mobile phone can sport a touch screen - soon it will appear pretty much everywhere, be it TV screen, the refrigerator door, etc. Heck, Toyota Prius already sports one, if you look carefully!

Thus the effect of iPhone on mobile phone industry will be not the ability to play multimedia - that has already been achieved. It is to introduce a hitherto relatively unused here in Western world (as opposed to Japan, for example) means of communicating with a mobile device, and set the standards even higher. Now the expectations of the average street consumer will be much much higher. It will be very interesting to see not how well Apple will do (that we know fairly well), but how will the mobile industry respond. Will it respond to it with a burst of innovation or will it drop the ball and respond with half-hearted attempts to attemp the market share?

Starting on June 29th, the show will begin!

Change is good

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Change is good. One who is afraid of change eventually is set aside. One who instead embraces change, may not necessarily succeed, but s/he will certainly have a higher probability of success. Embrace change or die.

On that note, I must admit I am seeking and pursuing a few changes of my own. This will not leave Mi-Si aside though, but rather, this will allow me to devote more of my time to it, and to my own professional and intellectual passions.
